Course: 3 laps of the two 5 knot cans and the Deep Cove Yacht Club
This was our annual Criterium (lap) race. Its a tough one because after every corner there is a sprint. I realized that most paddlers are traveling at almost the same speed. I was chasing the lead group and couldn't stay with them. I told myself, "Well I'll fall back with the next guys, Rod and Greg, and it will be easier. They were going really fast. Well I'll fall back to the next group ( Paul Hansen) and it should be really easy. Paul was going like stink too. So then I fell back with Micky, Marshall and Curtis? I barely hung on to the finish. The speed differential between these groups was very slim. Most of the distance advantages are gained in the first kilometer. Basically, who can hold 13 - 14 kph for the longest. After that there isn't much position change, except for me slacking off. "When the going gets tough, I stop"
