The Lesser Kayak Swap
This race was created by long time Tuesday Night Racer, moved to Nelson, BC Matt Nuttal. Matt was one of the original participants in the race and always an enthusiastic and fierce competitor. So you can blame him for your sore legs today. Most people paddle because of its great Low Impact nature. So to get a bunch of paddlers to run is a great achievement. As usual when we set a race course the kids of Deep Cove take great pleasure in re-arranging the markers. One year we had used flower to make arrows on the ground. Some prankster got sugar and re-directed a few arrows. This was the case last night. Many arrows were missing, that combined with people not following the arrows that were got some people lost. Case in point, the very first arrow coming off the Gov Dock was pointing to the right, the leaders headed straight up the stairs. ??
But my sloth-ful performance in the run has inspired me to get out there and hike and run more!! Yep! I start that program....tomorrow. I was truly inspired by Sarah David and ______ who ran the course together at a very strong pace. Big smiles the whole way around. Very impressive.
Burnaby Lake Canoe & Kayak Club brought their 15 passenger War Canoe. They are on a quest to win CANMAS. Canadian Masters Kayaking Championships. If successful they will be the first western province to win this prestigious event. The War Canoe race is a big deal, as there is huge club rivalry over the race. A victory brings enormous bragging rights. Katja Rademacher has been the driving force and is cracking the whip to get people involved. Good luck to BCCKC. They have put out a Challenge to race a Deep Cove Dragon Boat team at a later date, so hopefully we will see them out again before CANMAS on August 29.
Next Week is Magnum PI Night. Why Magnum PI?? Well I guess in one of the episodes he paddled a surf ski in the Molokai race. So get your Hawaii Shirt, mustache, Ball cap, Ferrari and race to Maple Beach and back. Could next week's Maui Jim Hot Spot be awarded to the fastest Magnum PI look alike??
I mentioned that Deep Cove Outdoors has a Carbon Fiber Evo that we are selling for $1000 below retail value. What's wrong with it you ask?? its in perfect condition, very light and its a 2009 model. This is the deal of the century. Light kayaks are a dream to paddle and this one is sub 24 lbs. it will be gone soon.
Deep Cove Outdoors has great summer clothing in stock, Women's clothing by Lole, and Men's and Womens , by Reef, Horny Toad, and Icebreaker.
Last week we had some great race footage of a variety of Tuesday Night Paddlers. Its a great opportunity to see what you look like and analyze your technique. So plan to head to The Raven next week.
