Race Commentary:
Big Sales at Deep Cove Outdoors, Flip Flops, Men's Summer Shorts, Womens Summer clothing.
105 Paddlers racing!! Thanks to the BC Biathlon Team which built the Tuesday Night Race into their 2010 Summer Training Camp. SUP had a good turn out too.
SUP Course Lone Rock return 4.5 km-ish
Long Course Lone Rock Raccoon Island Return 7 km-ish
We surprised surf ski paddler with 2 mandatory dismounts and remounts. 1 at Lone Rock Point and the second at Raccoon Island. This reminds me that we have not done the annual wet exit night for sea kayakers. Often racers focus on how to go fast and don't practice their basic safety skills of how to get back into the kayak, surf ski. These are "Use them or lose them Skills" I often talk to people who say, "oh yeah, I have done that, a couple of years back" If this is you, consider that you Don't Have Those Skills!! If you are in an emergency situation where you NEED to get back into your kayak/surfski, you will be challenged. Most people haven't practiced a remount or sea kayak re-entry in real life conditions, it is not easy. So be forewarned that we will be putting a Sea Kayak Wet Exit into the finish of an upcoming Tuesday Night Race. We will be videoing the flayers and using you for comic relief at The Rave Pub. Public humiliation is a great motivator, so get out there and practice your wet exit, and more importantly, your re-entry.
