It seemed like only yesterday we were wrapping up the 2009 Tuesday Night Paddlesport Races. Since then the Big Winter Sporting Event has come and gone and we are now at the start of another great season. Some many of the hard core regulars last night but also saw many former Tuesday Night Racers who are re-starting their racing career after a brief hiatus. People have all sorts of different goals and many of you have been working towards them over the winter. Whether its finishing the race on a surf ski with out capsizing, meeting some new people, building fitness for a summer kayak trip or winning your first ever Tuesday Night Paddlesport Race like Warren Bruce did. Its all good.
Many people have the wrong opinion of racing. The word "Competition" sometimes comes out of people's mouths like a bad word, but to me if I were all about "Owning the Podium" about 90% off the people wouldn't compete. Some of the people who have been coming to the Tuesday Night Race the longest are finishing at the bottom of the pack. That's really great and inspires me. So, if you are not #1, 2 or 3 what keeps you coming out? Figure it out and pass it along to those Non-competitors. Maybe they can have some fun with racing too!
